Get pendpost, your way
pendpost is free and open source, and it runs on your own machine with no account. With nothing configured it starts in mock mode, so you can try the whole draft, approve, schedule, and publish loop before you connect anything.
Let your AI set it up
Paste this into Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, or Windsurf. It installs pendpost, opens the dashboard, and walks you through setup.
You are helping me set up pendpost, a local-first social media planner that runs on my own computer. Do it end to end and explain each step in plain language.
1. Check Node.js is version 20 or newer by running `node --version`. If it is missing or older, install or upgrade it for my operating system, then confirm the version.
2. Start pendpost by running `npx pendpost` and leave it running. It builds its dashboard on first run, then serves at http://127.0.0.1:8090.
3. Open http://127.0.0.1:8090 in my browser so I can see the dashboard. It starts in mock mode with example content, so nothing publishes and no accounts are needed yet.
4. Connect yourself to the running pendpost as an MCP server so you operate the same instance the dashboard shows. Prefer its HTTP endpoint at http://127.0.0.1:8090/mcp. If your client only supports stdio, use this config instead: {"mcpServers":{"pendpost":{"command":"npx","args":["-y","pendpost","--stdio"]}}}
5. Then follow pendpost's own setup guide at https://github.com/pendpost/pendpost/blob/main/AGENTS.md and the Setup page in the dashboard. Call the pendpost_health tool, read its setup field, and walk me through connecting each platform I want to publish to.
Credential safety: never read, type, paste, screenshot, or store any password, access token, or API key. I will enter every credential myself at each login screen. Your job is to guide me and run the local commands, not to handle my secrets.Already running pendpost? Add it to your client
Any MCP client: show config
pendpost is an MCP server. Add this to your client config:
{
"mcpServers": {
"pendpost": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"pendpost",
"--stdio"
]
}
}
}Install the desktop app
Download, double-click, and run setup from the app. No terminal needed.
Windows: coming soon.
Heads up: the app makes installing one click, but connecting a real platform still uses a short per-platform setup step. You can explore everything in mock mode first.
Run it from the terminal
Node.js 20 or newer, or Docker.
- npm (no install)
$ npx pendpost - Homebrew (macOS, Linux)
$ brew install pendpost/tap/pendpost - Docker
$ docker compose up
Then open http://127.0.0.1:8090 in your browser.
Prefer source? Clone the repository and run npm start.
Run it on a server that never sleeps
Instagram, LinkedIn, and X publish on schedule only while pendpost is running. Keep it on a host that stays up and it fires every post on time. See the always-on guide.
- Container image (GHCR)
$ docker run -p 8090:8090 ghcr.io/pendpost/pendpost
Fly.io and Railway templates ship in deploy/ too. Bind it beyond loopback only behind a tunnel; see security and trust and the optional 24/7 cloud service.
Every path runs the same local-first pendpost behind the same human approval gate. The docs hold the full reference and the FAQ covers setup questions.
